Advancement into retreat, 2001
This performance work was part of a Glasgow art festival during the month of October 2001. This work prayed upon the mundane routine of a city street where the same activities are played over and over each day. I wanted to represent this monotony by dressing up like a women I know who has a degenerative mental illness. I presented myself behind a door and frame (which I constructed) and smiled in the style of Jack Nicholson in the Shinning. This work was most enjoyable if not a little frightening; the level of engagement with the public was very high.
